GIZ Office Kazakhstan would like to announce a new vacant position in the capacity of the Project Coordinator in the project ‘Preventing violent extremism in Central Asia’ (PVE).

Duty station: Almaty, Kazakhstan

The Project Coordinator manages the implementation of the project activities in Kazakhstan. He / she is responsible for planning, coordinating and follow up (evaluation and reporting) of the activities in close cooperation and agreement with the GIZ team leader of the project and contracting partners and in accordance with the specified quality standards. The Project Coordinator is assisting project initiatives to provide professional advisory services to and cooperate with a broad range of target groups. Furthermore, He / she is ensuring innovation and knowledge management.

A good flow of communication and information as well as concrete networking and cooperation with the respective staff of all involved institutions and counterparts and within GIZ is included in this task.


Management and coordination

  • Steers and manages the overall implementation of the project in Kazakhstan ensuring the coherence between the various project components, activities and partners;
  • Plans and monitors the implementation of activities and achievement of results in accordance with the project plan, conducts regular budget revisions, proposes corrective actions/changes (including rescheduling related activities);
  • Facilitates general project planning including adaptions on a regular base, in case of need and according to specifics of the components;
  • Identifies the content and scope for short-term assignments / consultancies etc. within the available budget plan; coordinates and monitors performance of the assignments and supports the activities of the commissioned local and international short-term experts;
  • Organizes, conducts and documents trainings, workshops, events; takes the lead in all organizational and logistical aspects;
  • Acts as a focal point on national level for the grantee.

Communication and networking

  • Regularly liaises and coordinates with all important project stakeholders, such as the political counterpart and other ministries, other governmental institutions and agencies, non-governmental partners, local authorities, religious associations, international organizations and others present in Kazakhstan to build up and maintain a good working relationship;
  • Provides technical assistance to local and international experts;
  • Ensures knowledge management; collects, processes and distributes relevant information, monitors communication and interaction between relevant stakeholders through analyses of the media, direct dialogue, participation in meetings, seminars, conferences etc.;
  • Supports cooperation, interaction and exchange among the different partners and stakeholders, assists with PR work and networking;
  • Communicates partner interests and efforts, forwards these and encourages sharing ideas and information for the benefit of the project;
  • Ensures required reporting to national authorities and assists the project management in reporting to the commissioning party.

Required qualifications, competences and experience qualifications

  • University degree / MSc in political sciences, conflict studies, international relations, business administration, or similar field, or proven adequate professional experience.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in the coordination, management and implementation of international cooperation projects or in the private sector;
  • Good experience in technical cooperation with the ministries and regional administrations in Kazakhstan;
  • High negotiating skills and assertiveness in complex negotiation situations;
  • Advisory and managerial competencies;
  • Communication, presentation and moderation, training and facilitation skills;
  • Sensitivity in cooperation with partners;
  • Monitoring and evaluation skills;
  • Good working knowledge of ITC technologies and computer applications
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently, as necessary;
  • Excellent reporting skills;
  • Excellent team player and liaison skills;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, Russian and Kazakh; German is an asset.
